As healthcare professionals find themselves more and more targets of violence, Ministry of Justice and Health of Turkey is working on new regulations to punish and deter perpetrators. But the lawsuits weren’t over. Union report of Health and Social Workers (Health-Sen) shows They were exposed to 190 lawsuits of Violence involving 364 perpetrators and approximately 316 healthcare workers during 2021.
This ministries plans to introduce a bill on most issue for parliament in next weeks. Under current laws, perpetrators of there may be violence punished with up up to three years in prisonbut the sentence is seen as soft and could be more reduced with six converted to months and fines, on judgments of court. Purpose of the draft bill ensure all convicts minimum service prison without a sentence option of a punishment. Crimes targeting healthcare workers will be committed also be exempted from existing laws allow if convicted, postponement of sentence by the court first guilty.
