The Kingdom has called on the member countries of the Board of Governors of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency to give their full support to the IAEA and its director, amid the approval of the Agency’s Board of Governors of a draft resolution blaming Iran for “failing to provide clarification regarding traces of uranium found at 3 nuclear sites.” Saudi Arabia published the decision and called on Iran to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency without delay.

And Agence France-Presse reported that the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency overwhelmingly passed a resolution criticizing Iran for its lack of cooperation and refusal to explain the presence of trace uranium at three undeclared sites, and 35 countries, the council overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning Iran for its failure to provide. This explains the presence of traces of uranium in three undisclosed locations, and 30 countries voted in favor of a resolution condemning Iran in the IAEA Board of Governors, while Russia and China opposed and three countries abstained.

It is noteworthy that before the adoption of the resolution, Tehran stopped the operation of two cameras installed by the International Atomic Energy Agency to monitor its nuclear activities …) and will continue to work as before” under the safeguards agreement associated with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, to to which Iran has been tied for decades.

termination of nuclear negotiations

The decision came in light of the suspension of Iranian nuclear talks with major powers, including the United States under the presidency of Joe Biden, in light of Iran’s request to remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorist organizations and the American administration’s refusal, while the United States, United Kingdom , France and Germany, in a joint statement, called on Iran to “implement its legal obligations and cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency” after the body passed a resolution criticizing Tehran for its lack of cooperation, while the French Foreign Ministry considered the lack of Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency is a cause for concern, and the foreign ministries of the four countries welcomed the decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which was taken “in response to Iran’s lack of cooperation” with it regarding “serious and pending guarantees” regarding of its nuclear activities.

Notably, Tehran entered into an agreement with the major powers on its nuclear program in 2015 that allowed sanctions to be lifted in exchange for restricting its activities and keeping the program peaceful, but the US withdrew in 2018 during the era of its former president, Donald Trump, and again imposed sanctions against Tehran as part of the “maximum pressure” policy. A year later, Iran reacted by starting to backtrack on many of its core commitments, most notably its uranium enrichment levels. .

Since early 2021, Iran has imposed restrictions on the work of the agency’s inspectors and has taken action, including not providing the agency with surveillance footage.
