On Wednesday, an Egyptian appeals court sentenced Mortada Mansour, president of the Zamalek football club, to one month in prison for insulting his colleague from Al-Ahly, Mahmoud Al-Khatib.
The Economic Offenses Court of Appeal on Wednesday ruled to reduce Mortada Mansour’s prison sentence from one year to one month with work and forced execution in a case brought against him by Al-Ahly President Mahmoud Al-Khatib, who accuses his colleague in Zamalek of insult. , slander, an attack on his honor and an insult to the reputation of his family.
The ruling, handed down on Wednesday after Mansour’s appeal, is subject to immediate enforcement.
Mansour appeared in video clips on his club’s channel and social media attacking Mahmoud al-Khatib and his family, which eventually led to his prosecution.
Mansour was originally sentenced to one year in prison, but that sentence was “reduced by a month,” according to a court source who asked not to be named.
Mansour, a former MP, has always made headlines for his controversial stance and has not hesitated to viciously attack his opponents or criticize ultras fans in other clubs.
His parliamentary immunity allowed him to avoid prosecution, in particular on charges of insult and defamation.
In 2018, he announced his intention to run for President of Egypt before dropping the idea.
