Manchester City on Tuesday confirmed the signing of Spanish left-back Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht Belgium on a four-year, £11m ($13m) deal.
The under-21 international was the fourth Premier League champion signing in the summer transfer period, following the arrivals of Norway’s Erling Haaland, Kelvin Phillips and German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno.
City are the best team in England and with Pep Guardiola I have the opportunity to learn and develop under the most outstanding coach in world football,” said Gomes, who previously played in the Barcelona youth team.
“To be part of this club is a dream come true for me and that is what any young player aspires to,” he added.
For his part, English club director of football Chicky Begiristain said Gomez was “an exciting young talent”.
And he added: “We are confident that he will be an added value for our team in defense and attack and that he will definitely continue to develop and improve his game under the guidance of Pep and his coaches.”
Last week, Guardiola confirmed Gomes’ imminent arrival by turning down an offer to loan him out this season.
