This will make downloading developer betas simpler by removing the requirement for installing a profile from the Development Center. Public beta testers who wish to install updates quickly have another choice.

Users of the iPhone and iPad can sign up for either the iOS 16 Development Beta or the iOS 16 Public Beta track under the new Beta Updates section. These options will be switched on automatically for those who have previously signed up for the beta.

Members of the Apple Developer Program will now have the ability to enable developer betas straight from Software Update in Settings, starting with iOS & iPadOS 16.4 beta. When a device already enrolled in the programme updates to the most recent beta release, the new option will be enabled immediately on that device. To view this option in Settings, your iPhone or iPad must be signed in with the same Apple ID you used to sign up for the Apple Developer Program. Future versions of iOS and iPadOS will use this new setting to enable developer betas; access will no longer be granted through configuration profiles.

Keep in mind that a Development Program Membership is necessary to receive developer betas. The iPhone or iPad needs to be signed in with the same Apple ID that was used to sign up for the Apple Developer Program in order to use this feature.
