In a letter addressed to his counterparts in the European Union, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov called for 250,000 artillery shells per month to be sent to Ukraine.

Ukraine has called on the European Union to send 250,000 artillery shells a month to Kyiv to fill a dire shortage that it warns is limiting progress on the battlefield.

According to the Financial Times: “Ukraine has called on the European Union to send 250,000 artillery shells a month to Kyiv to fill a dire shortage that could limit progress on the battlefield.”

According to Reznikov, Ukrainian forces use only 20% of the amount of shells they could use were it not for the lack of supplies, he said Ukraine consumes an average of 110,000 rounds of NATO 155mm rounds per month.

Reznikov wrote: “If you are not limited by the number of available artillery shells, then you can use the full load, and this is 594 thousand shells per month … According to our estimates, the minimum requirement for the successful completion of combat missions is at least 60% of the full ammunition load, or 356 400 shells per month.”

NATO countries use 155-mm artillery, and the United States has supplied the people of Kiev with 155-mm long-range M777 howitzers, and Ukrainian forces are actively using them to bomb the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

The Ukrainian forces were also equipped with German PzH 2000 self-propelled guns, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using the same caliber shells.
