Netflix has officially greenlit a second season of the reality series “Lock Upp” for its platform, following a debut year that saw the show dominate regional charts. The announcement was made by Monika Shergill, Netflix India’s Vice President of Content, during the “The Next Big Story” session at the FICCI Frames 2026 event on September 29.
The renewal comes as the streaming giant seeks to capitalize on the high engagement levels of the “jail” themed competition. While the upcoming installment is technically the third season for the franchise brand—which originated on AltBalaji and MX Player in 2022—it marks the second production cycle under the Netflix banner.

According to The Economic Times, the hosting duo of Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan is confirmed to return for the new season. The pair took over the “jailor” roles during the show’s transition to Netflix, replacing original host Kangana Ranaut as part of what was described as a complete creative overhaul of the format.
Regional Dominance and Viewership
The decision to move forward with another season is supported by significant viewership data. During its initial Netflix run, the series accumulated more than 34 million hours viewed, spending two weeks in the Global Top 10 for Non-English TV. The show found particular success in South Asia, reaching the #1 spot in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives, and Mauritius. In both India and Pakistan, the program maintained a presence in the Top 10 for over 40 days.
Despite its commercial success, the Netflix iteration faced a divided reception from the audience. Social media sentiment often characterized the show as “rage bait,” with some viewers criticizing the format for feeling overly scripted compared to its predecessors. However, these controversies did not dampen the show’s momentum or its ability to drive subscriptions in key markets.
What to Expect from ‘Lock Upp Reloaded’
Industry reports, including those from Indian Television Dot Com, suggest the upcoming installment may be titled “Lock Upp Reloaded.” The production is expected to retain the “Sach Ya Sazaa” (Truth or Punishment) subtitle used during the 2026 Netflix debut, focusing on the high-stakes interrogation and isolation mechanics that define the brand.
The previous season concluded with Shreya Kalra being crowned the winner, taking home a prize of ₹1 crore. While specific contestants for the new season have not yet been revealed, the production is expected to continue the trend of casting high-profile social media influencers and television personalities to sustain the show’s digital-first engagement strategy.
