A general strike and civil disobedience prevailed today in the neighborhoods and cities of the occupied city of Jerusalem in protest against the “crimes” of the Israeli occupation. Young people in the Shuafat camp today at dawn blocked the main street in the camp, setting fires, in pursuance of the decision of defiance, and the entrances to the cities of Al-Ram, Al-Isawiya, Anata and Jabal Al-Mukaber were closed by angry citizens.
Young people erected barricades, stones and other objects on the roads that impeded the movement of vehicles and individuals in order to stop attempts to storm the camp and the city by the occupying troops.
Clashes between young people and the occupying forces took place this morning at the entrance to the villages of Al-Isawiyah and Jabal Al-Mukaber after a civil disobedience rally, no casualties were reported.
To date, the national and Islamic forces, as well as the youth movement in the Shuafat camp, have announced an action of civil disobedience against the occupying authorities, their institutions and their repressive apparatus in the camp and the city of Anata.
The force said in a press statement: “Civil disobedience is taking place in response to the crimes of the extremist and racist occupying government against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and all Palestinian areas, especially the measures it takes in the form of repression, abuse, torture, humiliation and daily harassment . at the checkpoint of the Shuafat camp.”
This strike comes less than a month after a similar strike in the city of Jabal Mukaber, southeast of occupied Jerusalem, on January 31st, in opposition to the Israeli occupation’s decision to demolish houses and facilities and evict Jerusalemites from their city.
