A defense ministry spokesman told The Associated Press that an oil tanker off the coast of Oman was attacked by a drone carrying bombs.
A Defense Ministry spokesman for the Middle East said the attack took place on Tuesday evening off the coast of Oman on the condition that his identity not be released because he is not authorized to publicly discuss the attack.
The British Maritime Trade Organization, the British military organization that monitors shipping in the region, told the agency: “We are aware of the incident and it is currently under investigation.”
For its part, the US Fifth Fleet said it had received reports of a tanker attack.
