After a fire that lasted several weeks, new parts of wheat silos collapsed in the port of Beirut late Sunday evening.

The degree of bending increased on the north side of the silos, causing them to collapse. The fire started a few weeks ago and caused the northern silos to gradually collapse, and on July 31 two silos collapsed due to the fire and fermenting wheat. On the fourth of August, that is, on the second anniversary of the explosion in the port of Beirut, two more mines fell, while black smoke and flames did not stop rising from the place, and the mines looked like a mountain burning with fire.

And the authorities evacuated workers from the surrounding area in the port of Beirut, and the fire brigade was present in anticipation of any possible collapse. Activists accuse the political authorities of failing to save this landmark and clean it from tons of wheat left in silos after the explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020.

The silos case is causing much controversy in Lebanon between the demands of the families of the victims to preserve it as part of the collective memory and the calls of officials and some political forces to completely destroy it. A powerful explosion caused by a shipment of ammonium nitrate in the port of Beirut killed more than 200 people and destroyed much of the Lebanese capital.
