US airline Frontier Airlines announced on Saturday that the company’s flight was redirected from Florida to the city of Atlanta after it was discovered that a passenger had a sharp tool used to open boxes (a cutter).
“The relevant passenger was detained by law enforcement in Atlanta,” a spokesperson for Frontier said in a statement.
No one was hurt in the crash and the airline offered passengers a new flight on Saturday morning to Tampa, Florida.
A passenger told NBC News that when the suspect went to the bathroom, a man sitting next to him told her that the suspect had a knife and was “threatening to stab people.”
She added: “I went after that and informed the flight attendants at the front of the plane.
She pointed out that I ended up telling me that they were going to land the plane immediately and we got off after 20 minutes.
The airline did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the suspect threatened to stab others on board.
