The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed that its firm and firm stance on the cause of Palestine and the Palestinian people will not change if international flights are allowed to cross the Kingdom’s airspace.
The Kingdom emphasized that the decision to allow the use of airspace for all airlines is due to its international obligations, and this step does not mean that it is a prelude to other steps.
This is stated in the speech delivered by the Acting Chargé d’affaires of the Kingdom at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom to the United Nations, Counselor Mohammed Al-Atik, before the UN Security Council at yesterday’s session on the item “The situation in the Middle East”. including the Palestinian question.”
He said: The Kingdom reaffirms its position of the Palestinian people and emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East as a strategic option to end one of the most protracted and complex historical conflicts in the modern world, based on two state decisions and in accordance with international recommendations, as well as the Arab peace initiative of 2002, which guarantees the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and an end to Israeli occupation of all Arab lands, including the Syrian Arab Golan. and Lebanese lands.
He emphasized that the Kingdom believes in the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation to respond to these common and new challenges facing the region and the world and create an opportunity for peace and prosperity in the region while maintaining Arab harmony. On July 16, the “Jeddah Summit on Security and Development” was held with the participation of the leaders of several countries of the region, noting in this regard the wide regional and international recognition of the results of the summit.
Al-Atiq stressed the Kingdom’s firm and supportive stance in everything that guarantees the security and stability of the Republic of Yemen and meets the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people, commending the efforts of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, while strengthening the commitment to the current United Nations-sponsored truce Nations, and seeking to renew it a second time. In line with the Kingdom’s initiative announced in March 2021 to end the crisis in Yemen and achieve a comprehensive political solution, it is also necessary that the Houthi militias respect the truce, stop exploiting the suffering of right-wing civilians and open humanitarian corridors in Taiz.
He emphasized the importance of keeping the Gulf region free of weapons of mass destruction, as well as the importance of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency in this regard, emphasizing the importance of strengthening regional and international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, prevent the financing, arming and recruitment of terrorist groups by some countries of the region, as well as the elimination of all activities that threaten the security and stability of the region.
The Acting Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in the Kingdom’s Permanent Delegation to the United Nations expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation of the attack on the sister Republic of Iraq against the governorate of Dahuk in northern Iraq, stressing his support for the Government of Iraq and its brotherly people in the face of challenges that threaten its security and territorial integrity .
