His Excellency Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf pointed out the importance of the great role of the Gulf Customs Union Office in fulfilling the requirements of the Customs Union to achieve economic integration of the Gulf countries.
His Excellency the Secretary General noted the great support of Their Majesties and Highnesses of the leaders of the GCC states – God bless them – for the activities of the Customs Union Authority, activating its role and empowering it with all the powers to fulfill its tasks in accordance with the decisions of the Riyadh summit on 42- th session of the Supreme Council, held on December 14, 2021 AD.
This happened when His Excellency the Secretary General received the Chairman and members of the Customs Union Office on the occasion of their first meeting yesterday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.
His Excellency congratulated Suheil bin Muhammad Abanmi, Manager of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Service, on his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GCC Customs Union in the presence of the members of the Board of Directors of the Customs Union, initiating the work of the Board of Directors of the GCC Customs Union and the beginning of its work; Pursuant to the decision of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council at its 42nd meeting (December 14, 2021, Riyadh), to intensify the work of the Customs Union Authority and empower it to perform the tasks assigned to it in accordance with best practices, support the implementation of all requirements of the customs union in the GCC countries in the light of the directives of Their Majesties and Highnesses of the leaders of the GCC countries.
The twenty-ninth meeting of the GCC Customs Union was also held under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Manager of Zakat, Tax and Customs, engineer Suhail bin Muhammad Abanmi, with the participation of members of the Customs Union Office and the Assistant Secretary for Economics and Development of the General Secretariat, Mr. Khalifa bin Saeed Al Abri.
The meeting discussed the memorandum of the General Secretariat on the completion of the remaining steps to create a customs union in accordance with a specific timetable until the end of 2024 AD, the minutes of the technical committees and the reports of interested working groups. with tracking the work of customs and connecting the customs information center at the General Secretariat to the systems of customs authorities and administrations in the GCC countries.
