Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian received the credentials of Badr Abdullah Al Munaih, the first Kuwaiti ambassador to Tehran after the Gulf emirate reduced its diplomatic presence in the Islamic Republic in 2016.
And Iran’s foreign ministry said on Saturday evening that Al-Munaih had presented his credentials “to begin his diplomatic duties as his country’s ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Kuwait reduced its diplomatic presence in the Iranian capital following Saudi Arabia’s decision in January 2016 to sever ties with the Islamic Republic amid attacks from its diplomatic missions by protesters against Riyadh’s execution of Saudi opposition Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
The return of Kuwait’s ambassador to Tehran comes just weeks after the UAE announced it was considering returning its ambassador to the Iranian capital after years of taking measures similar to Kuwait’s.
