The Lebanese TV presenter sparked anger and controversy on social media after her video, broadcast by the Lebanese channel Al Jadida, attacked Syrian refugees and demanded that they leave Lebanon in a manner described as cruel and inhumane.
Lebanese media Dalia Ahmed, who was previously subjected to racism because of the color of her skin, gave a speech in one of the programs broadcast on a local channel, and social media pioneers characterized it as racism and incitement against Syrian refugees. Ahmed appeared in the video calling for the deportation of the Syrians, noting that the Lebanese considered the Syrians “our people when we were unable”, adding that the Lebanese were “a source of humanity” when they were “capable”, but now they have nothing to share with refugees, except for “migration”, because “it is not proper for Lebanese to emigrate and stay at home!”
The episode caused an uproar on social media, the pioneers of which previously mentioned that Dahlia was a victim of racism before making statements that were no less racist than what she suffered a few months ago. Notably, Lebanon hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees per capita; The government estimates that there are 1.5 million Syrian refugees. It also hosts an additional 18,500 refugees from Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan and other countries, in addition to the more than 200,000 Palestine refugees under UNRWA’s mandate.
