At least 9 people have died in Costa Rica when their bus plunged into a ravine after a landslide caused by heavy rain, the Red Cross said Sunday.
The Red Cross said 34 people, including the driver, were rescued.
A bus carrying 60 passengers plunged into a 75-meter-deep ravine on Saturday at the Cambronero Pass, 80 kilometers west of the capital San José.
And the Red Cross announced on Twitter that “nine dead” had been recovered from the narrow valley. Rescuers, who continued to work on Sunday morning, fear that the number of victims will increase.
Experts from the University of Costa Rica warned in their March 2021 report of the danger of road collapses in the region.
