From its president to thousands of its citizens, Austria is mourning the female doctor who committed suicide a week ago after receiving social media threats from anti-vaccine groups in a case that highlights Covid’s persecution of scientists.
Where Lisa-Maria Kellermeier (36) was found dead on July 29 in her office in Upper Austria (North) with her farewell letters left behind. An autopsy, carried out at the request of the family, confirmed the version of suicide.
And she mentioned in a post posted at the end of June on her professional website that she would stop checking until further notice.
“For more than seven months, we have received occasional threats from circles opposed to Covid measures and vaccines,” she wrote.
She said she had “invested more than 100,000 euros” in keeping her patients safe and spoke of the intolerable situation.
“I can’t take this situation anymore and I’m facing bankruptcy,” she told the press.
In support of her claims, she posted messages from a user who threatened her by pretending to be ill before committing a massacre that killed her and her employees.
Lisa Maria Kellermeier has been targeted after criticizing the mandatory vaccination protest movement in the fall of 2021.
