Barcelona announced on Friday that it has sold an additional 15 percent of television rights in the Spanish league to US investment fund Sixth Street over the next 25 years.
Last week, the Catalan giant already sold 10% of the league’s TV rights to the same group for 207.5 million euros ($215 million).
“In total, Sixth Street will acquire 25% of the club’s television rights over the next 25 years,” Barcelona said in a statement.
The club did not say how much was paid for the additional 15 per cent, but Spanish press reports put the amount at 400 million euros.
This agreement helps the five-time European champion to continue with new contracts for next season after the arrival of Polish star Robert Lewandowski and Brazilian Rafinha.
Barcelona have been desperate to raise capital following financial difficulties in recent years.
In August, Joan Laporta, re-elected president of the Catalan club, said that a financial audit revealed the club’s total debt of 1.35 billion euros.
The club allowed its Argentine star Lionel Messi to leave last June, saying it couldn’t keep him even on a reduced salary.
