The Beijing Education Commission said on Saturday that all primary and secondary school students in the capital could return to school from Monday after the number of COVID-19 infections dropped in recent days.
The committee added that kindergartens will be allowed to reopen from July 4.
Beijing closed schools in early May and asked students to switch to online learning amid a surge in local COVID-19 infections.
The Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau specifically stated that non-school youth sports activities could resume on June 27 in areas where there have been no public injuries for seven consecutive days.
Beijing was one of several cities in China that imposed restrictions to stop the spread of the Omicron wave from March to May. These efforts led to a reduction in injuries, but caused great damage to the country’s economy.
Today, Saturday, Shanghai reported no new local infections with or without symptoms for the first time since February 23.
