Blizzard’s Reputation with Gamers Takes a Hit

It’s no secret that Blizzard has been facing criticism in recent times. While their games have gained a cult following, many players believe that the North American company is not handling them well. This sentiment was further reinforced with the release of Overwatch 2, as fans were disappointed by the introduction of a battle pass and lack of content.

Interestingly, Overwatch 2 made its debut on Steam, marking the first time a Blizzard title was available on the PC game distribution platform. Unfortunately, this event opened the floodgates for internet users to express their dissatisfaction with the game, resulting in overwhelmingly negative reviews.

Overwatch 2, the lowest rated game on Steam

Since its release on the PC Steam platform on Aug 10, Overwatch 2 has garnered a significant number of reviews. Shockingly, only 9% of the 112,013 published reviews have been positive, making it the lowest rated game on Steam. It even received a lower rating than the notoriously criticized Chinese card game, War of the Three Kingdoms, which is considered “pay-to-win”.

What could be the reason behind the avalanche of negative reviews on the Overwatch 2 Steam page? Apart from players now having a direct platform to voice their opinions (which they couldn’t do on Battle.net), there is another crucial factor – disgruntled Chinese players. Ever since the distribution agreement between Blizzard and NetEase ended in March, Chinese players have been bereft of any Blizzard games. It’s only with the release of Overwatch 2 on Steam that they finally have access to the game and the opportunity to express their frustrations. As a result, gamers from around the world are uniting to criticize Blizzard for their mishandling of their games.
