European Union Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said during a visit to Tehran yesterday that talks on the Iranian nuclear dossier would resume in the coming days. “In the coming days, we will resume negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” Borrell said during a press conference in the Iranian capital, referring to the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal.
Borrell, who arrived in Tehran on Friday evening, held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the official Iranian news agency (IRNA) reported.
Borrell tweeted Friday night: “Diplomacy is the only way to get back to full implementation (of the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal) and overcome current differences,” and Borrell is due to leave Iran within a day at the latest.
“We are ready to conclude this agreement and urge Iran to take this diplomatic opportunity to conclude it now, while it is still possible,” the French Foreign Ministry said on Friday, expressing “full support” for Borrell’s efforts. whose last visit to Iran dates back to February 2020.
In a tweet, he thanked U.S. Special Envoy for Iranian Affairs Robert Mulley and European Union negotiator in charge of coordinating the Iranian nuclear deal, Enrique Mora, for their “close and ongoing coordination with the United States.”
“We remain committed to the path of beneficial diplomacy in coordination with our European partners,” he wrote, and Mali reaffirmed on Thursday “the U.S. commitment to return to the 2015 agreement.”
The administration of US President Joe Biden expressed a desire to return to the nuclear agreement, provided that Tehran once again fulfills its conditions, but the latter requires, first of all, the lifting of sanctions.
