Chiellini told Mediaset: “We’ve had 10 great years at Juventus and it’s time for young people to carry the torch. I did my best and hope to make an impact.”

Chiellini, 37, was unwilling to confirm if he would retire permanently after leaving Juventus, saying: “To be honest, I don’t know, I should think about it with my family. I’m happy to leave Juventus and I’m at the top of my game.”

Chiellini has won the local league championship with Juventus nine times since joining the team in 2004 from Livorno, and has been associated with fellow centre-back Leonardo Bonucci and historic goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Notably, Chiellini, European champion with his country last summer, will also retire from international football when Italy faces South American champion Argentina at Wembley Stadium in London next month.

Chiellini, who has played 116 international matches with his country, was looking to take part in the World Cup again before Zhao said goodbye to the fans, but Italy will not participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for the second time in a row. which hastened the departure of the central defender.
