A Chinese Navy ship aimed a laser at an Australian military airplane while in flight over The northern approaches to Australia, illuminating the aircraft and potentially highlighting danger of lives, Australia defense the ministry said on Saturday.
A P-8A Poseidon – a maritime patrol aircraft – detected a laser emanating from a People’s Liberation Army – Navy (PLA-N) ship, the defense the department said in A declaration.
“Lighting of the Chinese ship’s aircraft is a serious safety incident,” the ministry said. “Acts like it can potentially put lives in danger. We strongly condemn unprofessional and dangerous people military conduct.”
The Chinese ship was sailing east with another PLA-N ship across the Arafura Sea at the time of the incident, the ministry said. The sea is between the north rating of Australia and the South Coast of New Guinea.
