British police on Wednesday called Portuguese star Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo for smashing an Everton fan’s phone at the end of last season’s match.
Police have heard a 37-year-old Portuguese man charged with assault and “criminal damage” in an incident following the Red Devils’ defeat at Everton on 9 April.
Ronaldo appeared in a video circulated on social media and, according to authorities, was “called by the police” of Merseyside County, who confirmed that “the case is now closed.”
Ronaldo publicly apologized for his actions after the match and invited the offended fan to come to Old Trafford, Manchester United’s stadium “as a sign of pure play and sportsmanship”.
