Global demands for an independent international investigation into the murder of journalist Shirin Abu Akle have intensified. And he indicated that he had sent three identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, this month’s President of the Security Council and the President of the General Assembly “regarding the crimes that Israel, the occupying Power, continues to perpetrate without consequences against the Palestinian people under its control, under conditions continued impunity”.

The Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine stated that his country had received a huge number of messages of solidarity from countries, organizations, press groups and leaders from around the world, as well as from members of the Security Council, including the United States of America. , and expressed his appreciation for all these positions, but stressed the need to “translate this global outcry into real steps to prosecute the perpetrators who killed an outstanding and eminent Palestinian journalist.”

António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, condemned all attacks and killings of journalists and stressed that “journalists should never be the target of violence. He said: “Media professionals must be able to do their jobs freely and without harassment, intimidation or fear of persecution, and the Secretary-General reaffirmed his firm conviction that “a free press is essential to achieving peace, justice, sustainable development and human rights.”
