Queen Elizabeth II will be buried next Monday at 7:30 p.m. local time in a special ceremony at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Palace, west of London, following a national funeral in the morning in the capital, the palace announced.
On Friday evening, the Queen’s children, including King Charles III, gather around her coffin at the Palace of Westminster in London before the funeral of Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 at the age of 96 in Scotland.
Official funeral details
A state funeral, the first since Winston Churchill’s death in 1965, will take place at 10 GMT next Monday at Westminster Abbey with more than 2,000 guests, including hundreds of foreign leaders and members of the royal family.
After the funeral, the coffin is driven on a cannon cart through the streets of the British capital to Wellington Arch at the corner of Hyde Park, where it is put into a car.
Upon arrival in Windsor, the coffin will be taken to St George’s Chapel, following the magnificent Long Walk to Windsor Castle before the televised ceremony.
At 15:00 GMT, a prayer service is held in the church, attended by more than 800 people, before the funeral, which is attended only by family members, without photographers and cameras.
Where will the queen be buried?
The Queen’s coffin will lie in the King George VI Chapel, adjacent to the main church, where her father and mother are buried, as well as the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret.
Charles III hosts a Sunday reception for foreign leaders.
