European External Action Service spokesman in Brussels Peter Stano confirmed that the aim of presenting the working paper on cooperation with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council is to establish a strategic partnership between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
During the European Commission’s daily press briefing, Stano clarified that this cooperation is due to other factors given current geopolitical developments, adding that the European Union is stronger with partners.
He added: “Together with our partners, we represent 20% of the global economy and half of foreign direct investment, noting that there are other common areas such as climate, green transformation and energy.
His Excellency Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, welcomed the statement by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell, on the adoption of a joint working paper of the European Parliament and the European Commission on a “strategic partnership with the Gulf” with the aim of expanding and deepening cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
