Today, Sunday, the Iraqi Border Ports Authority announced the evacuation of 44 containers of hazardous chemicals in the port of Umm Qasr in the south of the country.
And she said in a press statement: “The Umm Qasr South Port Authority has begun evacuating 44 abandoned containers that have exceeded the legally permitted length of their stay in the port without consultation with stakeholders, containing hazardous chemicals.” She added that “this happened in accordance with Diwani Order 18 of 2022, in coordination and cooperation with the Joint Operations Command’s high-level committee.” She added: “Materials were delivered to the specified location away from residential areas and vital facilities to avoid any accidents affecting the safety of the ports and their workers.”
