The English Football Association announced on Tuesday that Everton manager Frank Lampard has been fined £30,000 (about $38,000) amid allegations in which he criticized the referee in the match in which his side lost to Liverpool. in which he mentioned the name of Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah.
Referee Stuart Atwell did not award a penalty after a combination ball against Everton’s Anthony Gordon at the Premier League summit in Merseyside last month.
After the 2-0 loss, Lampard said the penalty “would have been awarded if the mistake was in the interest of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah”.
Earlier this month, the FA charged Lampard with “improper conduct in attacking the integrity of referees”.
The FA said in a statement that the 43-year-old denied the allegations but was fined “for violating an FA rule regarding media comments made during an in-person hearing”.
Lampard took over at Everton in January and the team were four points above the relegation zone in the Premier League.
Everton were guaranteed to remain in the top flight in the penultimate round of the season and eventually finished 16th.
