Social networking sites have circulated a horrific video of a girl working in a pharmacy in Ismailia province, east of Cairo, while a man attacked her, sparking outrage among users of the sites.
The Sada Al-Balad website reported that a girl named Fatima was attacked and broke into a pharmacy to steal.
Her friend, who posted the video, stated that the attack took place around 11 am.
The activists said that the girl was a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of the Suez Canal and worked in this pharmacy.
Her friends and colleagues launched the “#Haq_Fatima” hashtag, and a large number of Twitter users interacted with it, expressing their dissatisfaction with what had happened and demanding that the culprit be arrested as soon as possible.
The video shows the perpetrator throwing the girl to the ground, punching her and stealing the personal items she was wearing before heading to the treasury to steal the money.
The newspaper Al-Masri Al-Youm reported that an investigative team was formed from the Investigation Division of the Third Division of Ismailia to quickly apprehend the perpetrator and take all necessary measures against him.
A medical source told the newspaper that the attack on the young woman resulted in a skull fracture and she is currently in the intensive care unit of the Medical Complex in Ismailia.
On social networking sites, one commenter wrote after watching the video, which he called “very severe,” “There should be a deterrent punishment for such criminals.”
Others warned against leniency towards such crimes as they began to spread.
