A senior military source in Sudan has denied Ethiopian allegations that a plane carrying weapons crossed Sudanese airspace and invaded Ethiopia.

A source told Sputnik today, Wednesday, in response to Ethiopian claims that a armed combat aircraft crossed Ethiopian airspace from Sudanese airspace, “these are strange, misleading and baseless claims.”

Ethiopia announced earlier today that it had shot down a plane that had intruded into its airspace via Sudan, explaining that the plane was carrying weapons for the armed Tigray People’s Liberation Front.

Today, the Tigray Liberation Front and the Ethiopian government accused each other of starting the fighting and undermining ongoing peace efforts.

A statement from the military command of the Tigray Liberation Front said: “After the enemy spent 5 days in the redeployment of forces on the southern front … the second, sixth and eighth mechanized divisions launched a massive offensive that began today at five o’clock in the morning. .”

The statement added: “The military leadership of the Tigray Liberation Front would like to make it clear that if the enemy does not stop the attack launched by him on the basis of a previously known offensive plan, the Tigray army is fully prepared to attack. repel this attack, launch a counteroffensive to liberate the occupied and sovereign lands of Tigray and return the displaced to their homes.

For its part, the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation reported, citing an Ethiopian government statement, that the Tigray Liberation Front launched an open attack on the eastern front, which Addis Ababa considered a challenge to ongoing peace efforts.

In a statement, the government said the front began fighting despite the fact that the government released prominent prisoners who were leaders of the front as part of its ongoing peace efforts.
