Wildfires in Russia continued to spread and engulfed nearly 110,000 hectares of land as of Thursday, the TASS news agency reported over the past three days.
The Republic of Sakha “Yakutia” in the Far East is the most affected region, where the fire has engulfed about 75,000 hectares of forest, and smoke from wildfires has recently reached the capital city of Moscow, limiting visibility in the city.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday at a meeting with regional authorities that there is a risk of forest fires intensifying in the European part of Russia and the Far East. TASS reported that more than 5 thousand people were mobilized to extinguish fires in the country.
