The International Football Association (FIFA) is preparing to officially announce the exclusion of the Ecuador national team from the 2022 World Cup due to fraud in the official identity documents of one of its players.

According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the Appeal Committee of the International Football Association has received new evidence accusing the Ecuador national team of forging the citizenship of its player Peron Castro. The International Football Association received audio recordings of Castro’s interviews with representatives of the Ecuadorian federation several years ago. The newspaper pointed out that the audio recording contained the player’s confession that he was born in Colombia, and despite this, the Ecuadorian federation decided on the participation of the player in the national team. She added that there would be a clear charge against the Ecuadorian Federation of obtaining fake passports and blatantly concealing the player’s real nationality as well as multiple identities for him. The newspaper indicated that after confirming the exclusion of the Ecuador national team from the World Cup, the second participant in the opening match of the tournament will be changed, since the Qatar group includes Senegal and the Netherlands in addition to Ecuador.
