the former Mayor of Yerevan, Vahagn Garniki Khachaturian, became the new President of Armenia, replacing Armen Sarkissian, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported on Thursday.
Khachaturian failed for win enough votes in the first round, with 69 in to favor. He was able to win 71 votes in the second round to provide leadership.
Opposition factions boycotted the parliamentary election, reports say.
He was the only candidate running, as opposition parties said they would not nominate candidates.
The President of Armenia is elected speak parliament in line with the constitution of the country.
President Armen Sarkissian announced his resignation in January, citing a lack of necessary tools for fight country politics problems.
Not in 1959, Khachaturian was mayor of Yerevan between 1992-1996. He was then elected as a legislator and had served as a ministry of High-tech industry under Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian government.
