Following the complete withdrawal of the Russians from large parts of the Kherson region in southern Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense considered this withdrawal a “public acknowledgment” of the difficulties faced by the Russian army on the western bank of the Dnieper.
She also confirmed in a daily briefing posted on her Twitter account today, Saturday, that Ukraine has regained large areas of the Kherson region on the west bank of the river and that its forces are now largely in control of the city.
Other areas too
In addition, she suggested that Russia is still trying to evacuate its forces from other areas of the province across the river to defensive positions on the eastern bank.
Yesterday, Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the completion of the transfer of its forces to the eastern bank of the Dnieper, emphasizing that there were no units or equipment left.
“Painful Strike”
It is noteworthy that this withdrawal dealt a painful blow and showed a serious setback for the Russian army, especially since this is the first major Ukrainian city to fall into its hands since the conflict began on February 24.
It also forms, along with Donetsk, Lugansk and Zaporozhye, four regions that the Kremlin announced at the end of September (2022) of its annexation.
Also, its geographical position is of particular importance, since the region is located on the border of the Dnieper-Petrovsk and Nikolaev regions, has a land border with Crimea in the south, while in the southwest it goes to the Black Sea, and to the southeast by the Sea of Azov.
