The states of the Gulf Cooperation Council have confirmed that they have friendly relations with all parties to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and that they are convinced that the best way to avoid negative consequences is to resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means in a way that is in the interests of all sides.
This is stated in the statement made by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Wazel, on behalf of the member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf during the UN General Assembly Extraordinary Special Session held today to vote on draft resolution “Territorial Integrity of Ukraine”. The ambassador said: The Gulf Cooperation Council countries have been following the situation in Ukraine with great concern since its inception, in connection with which the GCC countries call on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation and adhere to peaceful ways to resolve the conflict.
He stressed that the GCC countries voted in favor of the resolution as part of their support for adherence to the universally recognized principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, as well as their emphasis on respect for the sovereignty of states, the principles of good neighborliness, the non-use of force or threat of force, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations expressed his hope that the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council will continue to work to reach a solution satisfactory to all parties and avoid the negative consequences of the crisis on the human, political and economic levels.
