United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres praised the vital role of the League of Arab States in achieving peace and sustainable development throughout the world.
This was in his speech during the work of the Arab Summit at its thirty-first session, which is currently taking place in Algiers.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed the importance of strengthening the strong and deep partnership between the Organization and the League of Arab States and working together for peace, sustainable development and human rights.
He also hailed the eternal unity of the Arab world in light of growing geopolitical divisions.
On the Palestinian issue, Guterres stressed ahead of the summit the need to end the ongoing suffering in Palestine and the brutal occupation.
He expressed his desire to continue working with the League of Arab States to solve problems in the region, from Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, all the way to Sudan, Somalia and Libya.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations concluded his remarks by calling for the development of a G-20-led Sustainable Development Goal Incentive Plan to increase investment in sustainable development in emerging markets, increase liquidity and accelerate debt relief.
