PBS Announces Season 2 Premiere of Hotel Portofino

PBS made the announcement today that fans of the British series are set to start making reservations at Hotel Portofino in anticipation of the fall premiere of Season 2 of the series on the network. The story takes place in Italy in the early 1920s and focuses on a family that manages an Italian hotel. To keep their business afloat, the family must triumph over various challenges. Once more, Bella Ainsworth (Natascha McElhone) and her family are obligated to provide first-rate service to the affluent tourists that vacation in the resort town located on the Italian Riviera. These tourists have high expectations for their time spent in the town.

After a rocky beginning, Bella is presented with the opportunity to develop further her vision for her “very English” hotel during Season 2 of the show. When Bella attempts to put together a spa for the hotel, she quickly learns that there is a problem with the finances, even though the business has improved. The only thing that might be scarier than that is dealing with a visit from a travel guide, whose opinion on the facilities could ruin Bella’s future or make Hotel Portofino a must-see place on travel pamphlets. Aside from that, Bella still has to juggle her personal life while becoming increasingly anxious about the future of her children: Lucian (Oliver Dench) and Alice’s (Olivia Morris) marriage is hitting an all-time low, and Alice’s (Olivia Morris) hotel duties will undoubtedly need her to take a leave at some point. To add insult to injury, Cecil, played by Mark Umbers, suddenly reappears after being absent for about a year and begins trying to win Bella over, even though he may have to pay the price. The echoes of war finally reach Hotel Portofino, and Mussolini’s fascists threaten Bella’s integrity. This is certainly not the least of the problems.

Renewal and Distribution

Hotel Portofino was written by Matt Baker, who has also contributed to the writing of the British shows Professor T and Before We Die. The show is an original production of Britbox, and the streaming platform has already renewed it for a third season, which leads one to believe that PBS will continue to distribute fresh episodes to consumers in the United States.
