Today, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution initiated by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemning the continued rise in cases of religious intolerance, discrimination and related violence around the world. Religious intolerance and play a positive role in promoting democracy, fighting hatred and overcoming misconceptions.
The resolution refers to the speech of the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference at the fifteenth session of the Human Rights Council and his call to States to take measures to create an atmosphere of religious tolerance and mutual respect, as well as an effective measure to ensure that public officials, in the performance of their public work, do not discriminated against persons on the basis of religion or belief.
The resolution also called on states to provide information on efforts made in this regard as part of their reports to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and to take measures and policies to protect places of worship, religious sites, cemeteries and shrines, and to take action in the event of vandalism. .
