the husband of late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was shot at death on the film set of Actor Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’, said he was angry Baldwin didn’t take responsibility for Hutchin’ death.
Remarks made in excerpts broadcast on Wednesday from an interview with the “Today” show are the first public lyrics by Matt Hutchins on October 21 death of his wife Halyna Hutchins.
“The idea that the person holding the gun and having it unloaded is not responsible is nonsense to me,” Matt Hutchins told “Today” host Hoda Kotb. in the broadcast interview in full Thusday.
Baudouin said in a december interview with ABC News that he was pointing the gun to Halyna Hutchins on her instructions on new mexico set of the western when he left off without him pulling the trigger, killing she and hurtful director Joel Souza.
“Looking at him, I just felt so angry,” Hutchins said. “I was just so angry to see him talk about her death so publicly in such a detail way then to accept no responsibility after having just describe killing son.”
Baudouin said in son interview that “someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is to say, but it is not me.
Matt Hutchins added this “gun safety wasn’t the only one problem on this set.”
“There were a number of industry standards that weren’t being practiced,” he said, “and there are several responsible parties.”
Matt Hutchins and son 9-year-old son are the complainants in a culprit death lawsuit filed last week that names Baldwin, the film’s producers and others as defendants.
He alleges that Baldwin, who has been also a producer on the film, and its co-producers showed “insane” contempt in the face of safety complaints, and their “reckless conduct and cost-cutting measurements” leads directly to her death.
Baldwin’s attorney, Aaron Dyer, responded that any assertion that the actor was reckless is “entirely false.”
At least four other lawsuits have been filed over shooting, but Hutchins is the first directly related to one of both people shoot.
Last month, Baldwin shot over son cell phone to investigators, and Dyer said he continues to cooperate fully with investigation.
Investigators described ‘a certain complacency’ in how the weapons were manipulated on rust” set. They said it was too much soon to determine if charges will be laid.
