In recent hours, a wave of anger has swept among Libyans after a video clip documenting a mass attack on foreign tourists was circulated on the main street of the capital Tripoli.
The video shows a group of minors and young people attacking foreign tourists who were roaming the Tariq al-Shatt area of the capital, gathering around them, harassing and insulting them, to the point where they were attacked without any official intervention security for their protection. .
“infidels”!
The video also recorded tourists trying to escape and return to the hotel when they were in a state of fear and panic, but the group chased them and tried to obstruct their movement, as one of them shouted “infidels” in the complete absence of security.
In addition, the scenes sparked widespread anger on social media as activists criticized the youth’s barbarity as offensive to the country’s image and culture.
Activist Hakim Hijazi wrote: “Those who are from lost and lost Tripoli, without authorities and law,” asked the question: “What do we expect from a generation that grew up in chaos?”
While activist Ruqaiya called for the prosecution and imprisonment of these young people because what they did was not Libyan morality but an uncivil act and she was perplexed about the lack of police.
In turn, activist Muhammad al-Azraq, commenting on the incident, considered that the youth video, which recorded the persecution of foreign tourists inside Tripoli, is “a model that damages the reputation of Libya as a state and people.”
It is noteworthy that after the fall of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi, tourists began to visit Libya very rarely due to the disturbed security situation and the registration of cases of kidnapping, especially of foreigners.
