The International Monetary Fund announced on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with the Ukrainian government on a $15.6 billion bailout plan.
The International Monetary Fund said in a statement that the plan would “support a gradual economic recovery while creating conditions for long-term growth in the context of post-conflict recovery” and a path towards Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the United States of America and the countries of Europe are determined to prevent peace talks on Ukraine, unlike Russia and China.
Peskov added in a press statement on Tuesday: “Washington and European capitals, but primarily Washington, are seized by the desire not to allow, under any pretext, to enter into peace negotiations.”
“They just don’t let Kyiv even think (about it),” the Kremlin spokesman said.
Earlier, White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said that Washington was considering potential unacceptable calls for a truce in Ukraine after the upcoming meeting between the presidents of Russia and China.
“If this meeting leads to a call for a truce, it will be unacceptable,” Kirby said.
