Yesterday, workers at the world’s largest smartphone (iPhone) maker in China demonstrated mass demonstrations to avoid quarantine due to site shutdown after Covid-19 infections were identified, as well as video clips posted on Twitter and its Chinese equivalent. Weibo” showed crowds of workers in the face of Chinese special forces. The #FoxconnUnrest hashtag has been banned from Chinese social media, but some comments about the protests have been posted.
The footage, in particular, showed a crowd of workers walking down the street during the day, face to face with riot police and people in white camouflage suits.
In one video clip that was broadcast live, dozens of workers demonstrated at night, chanting “Let’s defend our rights” in front of rows of policemen and a police car, while other scenes show the remains of a burned gate that appears to have burned down during the night.
