The semi-official news agency Tasnim quoted the head of the judiciary in Iran’s capital Tehran as saying yesterday that about 1,000 people have been charged with the riots and will face public trial. Protests have swept Iran since the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini after she was detained by the Vice Police last month. It’s called the “bad hijab.” The slogans “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to the dictator” have returned stronger than in previous protests as popular anger escalated over Amini’s death last September 16 until it became one of the toughest challenges faced by the country’s religious leadership since the revolution. 1979 Clashes between students, Basij forces and security personnel at Tehran’s universities Clashes broke out between university guards and female students at Al-Zahra University, and several students were injured in a stone exchange at the Azad University branch in North Tehran. Students of the University “I raised a teacher” chanted the slogan “Universities drowned in blood, and our professors are silent!” Video footage released by the Student Union Coordinating Committee showed a massive gathering at Allam University after the university sent a mobile message informing a number of students of their temporary suspension from the university and university housing. The reports said that the disciplinary committee of the University of Tehran made decisions to suspend 9 students from classes. For its part, a German government spokesman said yesterday that Germany “in the strongest terms” condemns the violent campaign unleashed by Iranian security forces against protesters and the state’s crackdown on journalists. The spokesman added that Germany welcomed the additional sanctions imposed by the European Union on Iran and said that Berlin was considering taking further measures, without specifying the timing of their implementation.
