Iranian authorities today, Tuesday, arrested former President Akbar’s daughter Hashemi Rafsanjani on charges of inciting protests, Tasnim news agency reported, amid a wave of demonstrations in the Islamic Republic against the death of a young woman while she was in the custody of the vice police.

The agency said “Fizeh Hashemi was arrested in eastern Tehran by security forces for inciting rioters to protest in the streets,” without giving details.

Iranians continue their demonstrations for the twelfth night in a row to protest the death of Amini after she was arrested by the vice police for not following the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code.

Faezeh Hashemi, a former MP and women’s rights activist, has previously been involved in clashes with Islamic Republic authorities.

In July, she was charged with propaganda activities against the country and blasphemy in social media comments, the judiciary said at the time.

And at the time, she was quoted in a Club House statement that Iran’s demand to remove the Revolutionary Guards from the US terrorist list was “damaging” the country’s “national interests”.

She also made separate comments regarding Khadija, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad. The media reported that she described Khadija as a “businesswoman”, indicating that women may also be involved in economic activities.

But she later clarified that the comments were “a joke … with no intention of offending,” according to the IRNA news agency.

Her father, the late President Rafsanjani, was a moderate advocate for better relations with the West and the United States.

In 2012, Faezeh Hashemi was sentenced to six months in prison for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic”.
