Six members of the Iraqi Federal Police were killed and 7 others injured in the attack, which took place on Tuesday night in a remote area 140 kilometers north of the capital Baghdad, attributed to ISIS, according to a military source.
A source who wished to remain anonymous said that “six federal police officers were killed and seven others were injured.”
He added that “ten to 15 members of the Islamic State attacked the federal police station after midnight (Wednesday).” The attack lasted over an hour.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack took place in the Al Jalam region of Salah ad Din province, in an area where ISIS cells are still active.
The organization took control of large areas in 2014 in Iraq and neighboring Syria, but was defeated in two countries in 2017 and 2019, respectively. The last bloody explosion in the capital took place in July 2021, on the eve of the Eid al-Adha holiday, which killed dozens of people, mostly children.
