His Excellency Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, addressed the opening of the thirty-first session of the Arab Summit hosted by the Democratic People’s Republic of Algiers on 1 and 2 November 2022 in Algiers, emphasizing the depth of ties between the Organization and the League of Arab States, as well as the principles, values, common features and problems that unite them, expressing the desire of the organization to strengthen cooperation, solidarity, coordination and integration between the two organizations.
The Secretary General stated: “The Palestinian question is the central and unifying issue of the Arab and Islamic systems of joint action, as it signals the continued closure of the horizon for a political solution and the escalation of Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people. , their land and their shrines, especially the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, with dire consequences that could further aggravate the situation. This requires uniting positions and strengthening efforts in the international arena to implement resolutions that have international legality, ensure international protection of the Palestinian people and support their legitimate rights, including the right to exercise the sovereignty of their state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He added that the organization supports international and regional efforts aimed at finding lasting political solutions to various crises and current problems in the Arab and Islamic world.
The Secretary General pointed out that the fight against terrorism and extremism, as well as the fight against hate speech and Islamophobia around the world, are the most important challenges facing Arab and Islamic societies and require increased efforts, strengthened cooperation at the regional and international levels and the consolidation of values . tolerance, understanding and peaceful coexistence.
He stressed that the organization looks forward to strengthening coordination between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States to promote the solution of common issues, strengthen cooperation in the economic, scientific and cultural fields, empower women and youth, expressing his hope that the Algerian presidency at the Arab Summit will give new impetus to Arab-Islamic cooperation.
