On Thursday, King Abdullah II of Jordan issued a royal decree approving an amendment to the government of Bishr Hani al-Khasawneh.
This is the fifth amendment to the Al-Khasawneh government and included 10 ministries under which Nasser Sultan Hamza Al Shurayda became Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Public Sector Modernization.
Engineer Wajih Tayeb Abdullah Azaizah was appointed Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs.
Engineer Ahmed Maher Hamdi Tawfiq Abu Al-Samen was appointed Minister of Public Works and Housing and Minister of Transport, while Azmi Mahmoud Mufleh was appointed Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Youssef Mahmoud Ali al-Shamali was appointed Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and Minister of Labour.
And Faisal Youssef Awad Al-Shbul, Minister of Government Communications.
He also appointed Wafa Saeed Yaqub Bani Mustafa as Minister of Social Development and Kholud Muhammad Hashem al-Saqqaf as Minister of Investment.
Under the new amendment, Nancy Ahmed Ibrahim Namruka was appointed as Minister of State for Legal Affairs and Zeina Zeid Rashad Toukan as Minister for Planning and International Cooperation.
Jordanian officials confirmed on Wednesday that Al-Khasawneh had asked ministers to resign in preparation for a new cabinet reshuffle.
The Khasawnah government has witnessed several events of public opinion, including an oxygen outage incident at a government hospital that resulted in the deaths of several coronavirus patients, in addition to a gas leak incident at the port of Aqaba, the most recent of which was the collapse of an apartment building in Amman, resulting in civilian casualties.
Jordan, hard hit by troubles in Iraq and Syria, is suffering from difficult economic conditions exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
