Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kissier officially joined Barcelona on Monday with a contract until the summer of 2026, according to the Catalan club, which he received for free as a result of his Milan contract expiring.

“FC Barcelona and Franck Yannick Kissier have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of the player to Barcelona after the expiration of his contract with AC Milan,” the Spanish Liga runner-up last season said in a statement. “The player will be signed until June 30 December 2026, and the amount of the penalty for its sale will be set at 500 million euros.”

A deal to join coach Javi Hernandez’s team was finalized last March after he underwent a routine medical in Lugano, Switzerland.

The 25-year-old has been defending AC Milan since the 2017-2018 season, first on loan from local rivals Atalanta and then on a final contract in 2019.

The Ivory Coast played 223 matches for the team from Lombardy, which last season won the Italian championship for the first time since 2011, scoring 37 goals with 16 assists, according to the specialized website Transfermarket.

Last March, reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Barcelona and Casey had reached an agreement to move the latter to the Camp Nou for an annual salary of 6.5 million euros.

After a disastrous start to the season, Barcelona came back from afar and managed to fight their way into second place in the league behind title-winning rivals Real Madrid.
