Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed on Sunday that his soldiers had captured much of the eastern Ukrainian city of Bubasna, and Ukrainian officials said the struggle for control of the city in the country continues.
In mid-April, Russian forces launched a new offensive on the eastern side of Ukraine, where there has recently been heavy shelling and shelling around Popasna in the Luhansk region.
“Chechen special forces have taken control of most of Popasnaya… The main streets and central areas of the city have been completely cleared,” said Kadyrov, who often referred to himself as an “infantryman” at the behest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. , – the message in the Telegram messenger says.
There was no comment from Ukraine, but Aleksey Aristovich, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said late Saturday evening that heavy fighting was continuing in the city.
On Saturday, Sergei Gaidai, the governor of the Luhansk region, also said that Ukrainian forces still control the region.
“The situation is very complicated, but it is under control,” he added in a video post on Telegram.
He added that the Chechen forces did not participate in the hostilities, but were engaged in looting and recording video clips.
Kadyrov posts reports and videos on Telegram of Chechen soldiers allegedly taking part in the fighting in Ukraine, but there has been no confirmation of how many of them were actually deployed and whether they are taking part in the fighting.
